French Folding Opera Glasses

A pair of French made folding opera glasses in original leather case. An ingenious pair of opera glasses which fold up to fit in a pocket or evening bag. The front lenses lift up with ornate handle which is used to hold the glasses up. The back lenses twist upright (care needed!) and the button at the centre slides the back lenses out and voila! Made and signed by “MARS” with lettering BTEE (possibly brand name), FR & ETR Abbreviation of French & Etranger (foreign) indicating availability in France & worldwide and MODELE DEPOSEE indicating design protected (patented). Measures 77mm long, 100mm wide and 62mm tall.
